About This Project

This APM telescopic lifting keel system is one of the most remarkable keels in the history of sailing: 9 m draught can be reduced in two stages, initially to 6 and then to 3.50 m.
ln the fully retracted position the keel protrudes 2.5 m from the deck, meaning the crew has to lock the main boom on one side.
A hydraulically controlled trim tab, the size of a tall front door, installed on the trailing edge of the fin, can be moved eight degrees either side, which enables the helmsman to optimize the lift rated by the keel fin, even when sailing hard and so improve close-hauled performance.
